Loosing the Essence

I had a long day today. My hands hurt after tying 220 bows, my back hearts from standing and from carrying Iona in my arms.

I thought I would relax while doing some web browsing. I usually do, but tonight I am closing the browser thinking about all those that feed the wedding industry. I know them, I talk to them every day. It's all about the right colour, the perfect dress, the uniqueness of the event.

I cannot stop wondering when and how did we loose the essence? Why isn't a simple wild flower bouquet and a classic announcement enough? Why is it more about the decor than the actual act of marriage?

Unfortunately we are taking this into our married lives too. Work and more work, fast food, fast cars, little love. As I was reading Anca's post tonight, I decided to live the essence. Tonight I have the option to shut down my computer and spend some quality time with my family, maybe clean the dust of that bible.

Good night, friends!

We can say the same thing about any holiday, especially Christmas. It has become so commercial and the real meaning has gotten lost.

I think with weddings...some blame can be placed on magazines where they try to out-do one another....brides are so susceptible.

Don't let it discourage you from doing what you do....

Good for you! We chose for me to be a stay at home wife so that we could have a strong basis for our marriage. We made sacrifices to do it (like living in 450 square feet). We get a lot of flack for our decision, but we are happy with it. Hans and I work on our marriage every day to make it better and better. It has been good for us, but somehow staying at home and taking care of your family has become the "non-traditional" route. Isn't it strange? Hugs!

I love your wedding invitations, those are really beautiful!

Any tips where I could find materials to make my own wedding invitations? Maybe some good internet stores?

Theme colors are dark- and lightgreen and white. :)

Try finding some local supplier. Paper is really heavy, so expensive to ship.
I buy mine from local suppliers in large A0 sheets. There is also the 160 gsm paper for printers or you could try local art material shops. Hope this helps.
